Feb 15, 2024, 09:12 AM by Susan Rojahn

REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS

Applications Due: February 26, 2024

Award Period: April 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025

The Institute for Translational Sciences at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) will provide pilot funding for new joint projects with partner institutions Houston Methodist, Texas Southern University, and the University of Houston-Clear Lake,  which add complementary strengths in nutrition, maternal medicine, pharmacology, engineering and computer science, mathematical modeling, informatics, and other areas as well as expanded patient networks. These awards will provide funding and expertise to address challenges commonly found in patients from Southeast Texas that impact overall health and well-being.

Up to three awards, ranging in size from $20,000-$35,000 each, are available to support investigator-initiated studies. The primary goal is to use pilot funds to catalyze larger, extramurally funded joint collaborative projects. Priority will be given to innovative projects that address health disparities, public health emergency preparedness, improve safety and effectiveness, and removal of barriers to advance clinical translational research. The proposed project must be for a new pilot study and therefore must differentiate from existing funding.

Who should apply?

This is a collaborative project that must include Co-PIs from UTMB and at least one partner institution mentioned above. Any faculty from either institution can apply. Only one application can be submitted from the same Co-PI. Priority will be given to projects that have previously established working relationships, e.g., collaborative teams.
