We are pleased to share that Michael L. Kueht II, MD, a KL2 Scholar supported by the Institute for Translational Sciences (ITS) and the UTMB Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and Assistant Professor in the Division of Transplant Surgery, has been selected to present at the 99th Annual Meeting of the Halsted Society. The event will take place at UTMB in Galveston from September 24–27, 2025. Dr. Kueht will deliver his presentation on Wednesday, September 25.
The Halsted Society is one of the most respected organizations in academic surgery. It was originally formed in 1923 by a small group of surgeons after an informal conversation following a Yale-Princeton football game, and it was formally established in 1924 in Baltimore. Named in honor of Dr. William Stewart Halsted, a pioneer of modern surgical techniques and scientific rigor, the society’s mission is to preserve his legacy, encourage surgical innovation, and foster collegiality among its members through open discussion and fellowship. Membership in The Halsted Society is limited to 100 surgeons and other individuals in allied branches of medicine.
Dr. Kueht’s selection as a speaker highlights the growing impact of his clinical and translational research, especially in the areas of liver disease, surgical risk stratification, and abdominal transplantation. As a KL2 Scholar, his work exemplifies the mission of the ITS and the CTSA program, bridging clinical questions with research-driven solutions to improve surgical outcomes.
Dr. Kueht earned his MD from UTMB in 2012 and completed both his general surgery residency and a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. Since joining the UTMB faculty in 2019, he has published over 45 peer-reviewed articles and remains actively involved in translational research and surgical innovation.
We are proud to support and celebrate Dr. Kueht’s ongoing accomplishments and look forward to his contribution to this prestigious national meeting.
