Scholarly Concentration in Translational Research Enrollment

Students must participate in the School of Medicine 8-week Summer Research Program during their first year. There are three OnRamps in which students can join the Scholarly Concentration in Translational Research (SCiTR).

SCiTR Requirements

Electives and Selective Requirements - All students in the SCiTR must participate in a Research Elective in year 3. Additionally, students will be required to complete Research Electives and ITSU 4402, Multidisciplinary Translational Research Selective in year 4. Students in the scholarly concentration will be required to complete a total of 4 periods of translational research during years 3 and 4 for a total of 12 weeks of research after their first year.

Seminars - All students will be required to attend 4 seminars beginning their second year in medical school. SCiTR members are strongly encouraged to participate in the Translational Research Seminar Series with the HPTM students. Seminar Log Link

Capstone – A manuscript describing research work completed. This is submitted at the end of the BSHS course (ITSU 4402). A presentation of research work presented during the Translational Research Seminar Series.

OnRamp 1

  • Members are selected during the summer of their matriculating year of entry into the School of Medicine. Students selected for OnRamp 1 will participate in the selected SCiTR-HPTM Problem-Based Learning activities during the first three basic science core courses of Year 1. OnRamp 1 Members will also participate in the 8 week summer research program as a TL1 Trainee (Grant # TL1 TR001440) and in ITSU 1095, Inter-Professional  Translational Research Design Course (TRIPOD) which is taken with HPTM students and TL1 Pre-doctoral Trainees.

OnRamp 2

  • Members who are selected to OnRamp 2, will participate in the 8 week summer research program as a TL1 Trainee (Grant # TL1 TR001440) and in ITSU 1095, Inter-Professional  Translational Research Design Course (TRIPOD) which is taken with HPTM students and TL1 Pre-doctoral Trainees.

OnRamp 3

  • Members selected through OnRamp 3 are eligible if they have participated in the 8-week Summer Research Program and have met with Dr. Judith Aronson, SCiTR Director.
