Jordan Westra graduated from the University of Arizona with a MPH and Brigham Young University with a BS. After two years working as a Biostatistician, he decided to further his education as a Clinical Science PhD student. When not at work or school Jordan can be found with his wife and two children.

Lin-Na Chou

Lin-Na is a first year PhD student in Clinical Science program and a biostatistician in the Office of Biostatistics at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she is working with administrative data, and survey or registry linkage administrative database to estimate the impact of demographics, disease characteristics, and social factors on healthcare utilization or outcome. Prior to arriving in Florida, she earned a master’s degree in epidemiology with a focus on genetic and environmental influence on mental health. Otherwise, she has five years working experience in the field of clinical trial, especially for central nervous system (CNS) therapeutic area. In this coming academic year (2019-2020), she is awarded with Herzog Educational Enrichment Awards.

Melinda Tanabe

Dr Melinda Tanabe completed her Medical Degree in her home country Argentina. She embarked in an Internal Medicine residency in Chicago at John H. Stroger "Cook County" Hospital for three years. For her 4th year, she was chosen to serve as an Internal Medicine Chief resident. Dr Tanabe was then selected to UTMB’s Infectious Diseases fellowship specializing in Tropical Diseases and pursuing the Global Health track. She has been nominated by the Infectious Disease department for the outstanding fellow 2019 at UTMB, as well as awarded the Herzog Scholarship for Clinical Sciences in 2019. She is starting her Masters in Clinical sciences with the intention to expand her knowledge in research and with hopes of one day being able to contribute meaningful knowledge to the Neglected diseases field.

Rasha Al-Lami
Title: Master’s Student
Rasha A. Al-Lami is a second-year master of clinical science student. She was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. She finished her medical education in Al-Mustansiriyah Medical College and travelled to the United States as an exchange scholar on Fulbright scholarship to study at UTMB. She also won Herzog scholarship sponsored by UTMB. Her research interest is to study teen pregnancy rates with special focus on contraception uptake and usage among female adolescents in the U.S. and to discover ways to enact policy that could increase availability of effective methods of contraception in school clinics.
