In response to the National Research Council's 2015 report, the ITS developed and implemented a contextualized training program for scientific leaders.
This multi-year intervention involved behaviorally-based 360o assessments, monthly classes using a flipped classroom and constructivist design, and was followed by a Community of Practice format.
The program generated behavior-specific team science exemplars of the ten leadership commitments espoused by the Leadership Challenge model (Kouzes & Posner).
Development of the program generated the first ever contextually grounded leadership theory for scientists, now being implemented by two other CTSA institutions as well as the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Centers.
